Depth over breadth: what makes an activity matter
Why a few sustained commitments read more strongly than a long list.
, 4 minute read
Application forms give you space to list many activities. That does not mean you should fill it. Admissions readers look for evidence of what you cared about, how long you stayed with it, and what changed because you were there.
Three questions to ask about any activity
Have I done this for more than a year, at real weekly hours? Sustained time is the simplest signal of genuine interest.
Has my responsibility grown? Moving from participant to someone others rely on is more telling than any title.
Is there evidence of impact? Something built, organised, published, performed or measured gives a reader something concrete to believe.
